Shopping at a location with Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology is designed to be an effortless experience. Customers can enter the store by using their credit card or mobile wallet at the entry gate. The technology detects what shoppers take from or return to the shelves and creates a virtual shopping session. When customers complete the shopping experience, they can simply leave the store without waiting in line. Their chosen payment method is charged for the items taken.

Just Walk Out technology is made possible by artificial intelligence like computer vision and deep learning techniques, including generative AI, to accurately determine who took what in any retail environment. Amazon built synthetic datasets to mimic millions of realistic shopping scenarios —including variations in store format, lighting conditions, and even crowds of shoppers — to ensure accuracy in any environment.

Tap your chosen payment method at the entry gate. Once in the store, you can grab what you want, and your items will be added to your virtual cart. Items returned to a shelf will be automatically removed from your virtual cart. Simply take what you want, and your payment method will be charged after you exit the store.

Visa and Mastercard debit and credit cards are accepted at PAY & AWAY. Apply Pay and other mobile wallet payment options are also supported. American Express (AmEx), pre-loaded payment cards, and gift cards are not accepted.

Yes. You will follow the same entry process by using your selected payment method for the entire group. Then, the whole shopping group can enter the store. Keep in mind that since the group entered using your payment method, you will pay for whatever the group takes from the store.

Customers must be 18+ to enter PAY & AWAY. Anyone under the age of 18 will not be permitted access.

Customers can sign up for a receipt at the dedicated kiosk or scan the QR code upon exiting the store. You can also request a receipt here. Please note that receipts are usually available 1-2 hours after you leave the store and can be viewed online for up to 120 days.

Upon entry to PAY & AWAY, a pre-authorisation amount of £10 is temporarily held on your chosen contactless payment method upon entry to PAY & AWAY. Don’t worry – this fee will be released to your account, and you will be charged according to the products taken in your shopping trip. This could take several days to appear on your statement depending on your bank.
